Donald William Myers passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Cobblestone Crossing. He was born on August 15, 1926 in Pontiac, Illinois, to the late John William and Rachel Davenport Myers.
Don graduated from Wiley High School and joined the Navy serving as a bowswain mate on an LST in the Pacific Theater in WWII. After the war, Don graduated Brown’s Business College where he met his wife of sixty-nine years Virginia Dildine Myers. They were married in the United Methodist Church at 7th and Poplar in Terre Haute on October 3, 1947.
Three years later, Don was the first naval reservist from Terre Haute called up for the Korean War.
Throughout his life Don worked for Simplicity Pattern, Marathon Oil Co., Sun Oil, Sunoco, and Clark Oil Co. He retired at 55 as an appraiser from American Appraisal in Milwaukee, WI. His favorite job was working part-time for Paitson Bros. Hardware where he sold hardware and taught customers how to install it.
Donald chose cremation and private burial in Roselawn Cemetery beside his beloved Ginny Lee; DeBaun Funeral Home assisted with Don’s wishes. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at the Sycamore Country Club at a later date for family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife and son, John Arthur Myers; he is survived by his daughter, Jane Myers Long (Bob); two granddaughters. Sarah Jane and Jocelyn; three grandsons; Jonathan, Benjamin, and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Haley, Goldin, and Anneliese and one great-great-granddaughter.
