Betty DeBaun Obituary

Betty Eilene DeBaun, 89, passed away on March 21, 2019 at Westminster Village Health and Rehab.  She was born on April 13, 1929 in Terre Haute to Robert Harry Inks and Pauline (Higginbotham) Inks.  Betty is preceded in death by her husband Curt “Abe” DeBaun Jr. as well as many brothers and sisters.  She is survived by her sons Albert Smedler (Cheryl), Gary DeBaun (Chris), and Curt DeBaun III (Debbie); two daughters Gloria Huffstutler (Marvin) and Penny Bluebaum (Norman); Brother Larry Inks; Sisters Paula Jean Barrett (Jim), Rose Mary Piety, Joan Lewis Smith, and Eileen Greenlee; 16 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Great-great grandchildren, and 3 Great-great-great grandchildren.  Betty was lifelong member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.  Betty belonged to the 99’s Women’s Pilot Association for 50 years, in which she held every state office.  She had a great love of aviation which was shared with her husband.  Betty was associated with many organizations such as Civil Air Patrol, Prairie Creek Lions Club, Western Riders, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, as well as being a member of the EAA Chapter 83.  Betty and Abe were the second generation of owners at DeBaun Funeral Homes. Visitation for Betty will be held at St Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Friday, March 29 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 1:00. Burial will follow at New Harmony Cemetery.  Father Dan Bedel will be officiating.  The family asks that donations be made to the Curt and Betty DeBaun Aviation Scholarship at The Community Foundation of the Wabash Valley.
