Obituaries

William E. “Bill” Stewart, 76 of Farmersburg, passed away at 3:55 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in Davis Gardens. He was born in Vigo County on September 9, 1935 to Jonathon Stewart and Vernah Starrett Stewart. He retired from the Tribune-Star after 30 years of service in 1988. He delivered newspapers in southern Vigo County for 25 years. He is survived by his life companion, Phyllis Sanders of Farmersburg, his daughter Deborah Gentry of Farmersburg, and by his son Doug Stewart of Cleveland, TN. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; Matthew Bryan and Robbie Bryan, Kristina Gentry, Jessica Stewart and Austin Stewart, as well as 2 great grandchildren Mattilyn Bryan and Kelli Armstrong. Other survivors include his brother, Cletus Stewart of Orlando, FL, and his sister, Lorna Dean Rector of Prairie Creek, and a sister-in-law Loree Stewart, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rebecca Jo, and a son, David. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Etzell Stewart, Clayton Wade Stewart, and Ernest Kiefner, and a sister, Georgia Boothe. Funeral Services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Curtis Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Vista Care Hospice, 3401 South 4th St., Terre Haute, IN 47802.

    Doug, I so sorry to hear about your Dad. My prays are with you and your family.May God give all of you the strength to get through this. I know it’s hard, but just try to keep thinking of the good times. Always know you will be in my prays.     Sorry to read about the passing of Billy. He was my dad’s 1st cousin. (Syril Ray Kiefner). I wish I knew my distant cousins better on my dad’s side of the family. I knew immediately that Billy was Wade’s brother when I saw the photo. We visited Wade and Loree when I was little and miss Wade so much.
