Obituaries

Paris –  Wayne C. Goodman, 85, of Paris passed away at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010. He was born on January 25, 1924, in Charleston, Illinois to Carl and Wretha G. Goodman. Wayne graduated from Oakland High School in Oakland, Illinois, and also from Indiana State University as part of the V12 program. He served in the United States Navy in WWII as an Ensign on Sub Chaser 729 in the capacity of Gunnery and Supply Officer. SC 729 toured the South Pacific and patrolled the Ulithie Atoll. He married Edith M. (Shuman) Goodman on October 27, 1944, and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2003. He spent his life after WWII as a farmer in Edgar County, Illinois. He was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post # 211. He served as Trustee for New Providence Church, and also on the Elbridge Township Cemetery Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Wretha Goodman, his wife Edith M. Goodman, his brother Robert Eugene Goodman, and his brother-in-law Paul A. Shuman.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Gary Goodman of Paris, grandchildren Julie Garver and husband Mike of Paris, Philip Goodman and wife Linda of Flat Rock, IL,  Karl Goodman of Clinton, IN, sister-in-law Opal Shuman of Paris, sister-in-law Pat Goodman of Oakland, IL, great-grandchildren Jacob and Aaron Garver, Thomas and Emma Jane Goodman, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at DeBaun Springhill Chapel in Terre Haute, Saturday, January 23 at 10:30 a.m. EST, with Rev. Monte Reichenberg presiding.  Burial will follow at Vermilion (IL) Cemetery with military graveside honors. Visitation will be at the funeral home 4 to 8 p.m. EST Friday, January 22, and immediately before services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Providence Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
