Walter Thomas Murphy” Tom”, 83, of Terre Haute passed away on January 10, 2012 at 1:19 p.m. He was born in Montezuma, IN on June 2, 1928 to Scott Murphy and Frieda (Michael) Murphy. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War. Walter married the love of his life Rosemary (Houston) Murphy on February 13, 1954. He Retired from GTE after 35 years of employment as a service representative. Walter was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the IBEW. He enjoyed spending time outside enjoying hobbies such as hunting and trap shooting. He was the happiest when he was surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren, and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Rosemary Murphy; 4 daughters Cindy Knee her husband Kent, Debbie Goin her husband Jeff, Brenda Loveless her husband Billy, and Lori Chamberlin her husband Jim; grandchildren Michael Burnett, Dustin Burnett, Kolt Knee, Kylie Knee, Kelly Goin and his wife Samantha, Joshua Goin, Casey Loveless, Conner Chamberlin, and Cassidy Chamberlin; great grandson Sawyer Goin; sister Ethel Coleman; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Thomas and Hope Houston and Janice and Louis Watkins; several nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends with whom many memories were made. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Clarence Murphy.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday January 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E Springhill Drive. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors. Bruce Adamson will be officiating. Visitation will be on Friday January 13, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to the America Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

    So sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. I know you loved him very much and considered him your Best Friend. I always enjoyed hearing you talk about the times you had shared with your parents, especially the “Lake Adventures!” You are very blessed to have so many memories to treasure.

    Rosemary, you and Tom were both so good to me right from the start. I was immediately welcomed into your family. Tom’s old truck was a godsend in ’84 when I was back home to help with my Dad. He holds a special place in my heart, and I will miss him. ……and his highballs.

    I would like to say Thanks for all the kind words being there for our family. We were very lucky to have our Dad he was the best Dad we could of ever hoped for. We all have our memories we each had a special relationship with him and he loved us all the same…….he always told us that…….he loved my Mom more than anything and now we have my Mom to watch over she has said they were very blessed with friends and family. We could never say Thank you enough………..now we begin a new journey and our Dad will live in our hearts.
