Helen Fleschner Obituary

Helen Austin Fleschner, “Grandma Peachy,” 92, of Terre Haute, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 2, 2024. Helen was born to Albert Herschel and Susie Elizabeth (Slaughter) Austin on November 6, 1931. Helen accepted the Lord at the age of nine. Her faith and prayer life brought her so much comfort in all her days, especially the final ones. She was a life-long prayer warrior, an intercessor for all who knew her and even for some who didn't, lifting up so many names to Jesus every night of her life.

Helen was a member of Faith Wesleyan Church, where she belonged to the Ladies' Bible Study Group and sang in the choir for many years. She also faithfully attended First Church of the Nazarene for more than ten years in support of her son and his ministry. She was still witnessing in her last days to her nurses, from her hospital bed and asking them if they believed. We are confident of her faith and a heavenly home that she is now experiencing in the fullness of Christ and His great love.

Her love for her Lord was the most important thing to her in life; next was her love for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her the most joy. Helen was known for and enjoyed making her famous peanut butter fudge and sharing it at almost every family gathering. Her giving spirit was a source of encouragement to so many–she wrote and mailed numerous cards and notes throughout the years. She loved watching IU basketball with her sons and grandsons. Her very favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family.

Survivors include sons Mark E Fleschner (Debbie), Kevin Fleschner, Robert Fleschner (Judith), and daughter Julie; her grandchildren Jordan Fleschner, Stephanie (Luke) Frame, Laura (Caleb) Stewart, Aaron (Krystal) Fleschner, Evan Fleschner, Mark W Fleschner, Dr. Rachel E. Fleschner, Robert Wayne Fleschner Jr.; her great-grandchildren Aiden Fleschner, Ginny Scheid, Asher and Judah Frame, Greyson and Ava Fleschner, and soon arriving Baby Stewart. She is also survived by sisters Patty (Austin) McCormick, and Linda (Austin) Secrest, and brother-in-law Jim Stultz, as well as a large and very loving extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Dorothy Austin, Kenneth Austin, Martha Mae Austin, Mary Rogers, Catherine Compton, Robert Austin, Betty Lee, Marlene Shafer, Darlene Bennett, Larry Austin, and Shirley Stultz.

Arrangements will be handled by DeBaun Funeral Home in Terre Haute with visitation on Sunday, April 7th, 2024 from 1-3pm. Service following visitation to begin at 3pm. Reverend Dr. Mark E. Fleschner officiating. Followed by burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to The Lighthouse Mission in her name, as she was a giver and always wanted to help those who are in need.
