Elvera May (Cullen) Yontz, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:45 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2012 in Springhill Village. She was born in Vigo County on May 14, 1921 to James Paul Cullen and Aline Moran Cullen. She is survived by 1 son, Paul Yontz (& his wife Leslie), and three daughters; Judi Myers, Sally Bower, and Kathy All. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Paul Myers, Amy Story (& husband Matt), Aaron Bower, Ryan All, Jennifer Finn (& husband Zach), Amanda Grini (& husband Per), Megan Bower, and Mallory Yontz. In addition there are five great grandchildren surviving, Bradyn Bower, Kayla Story, Jason Story, Clark Finn and Jasper Grini, as well as a sister-in-law, June Cullen, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by 2 sons-in-law; Dean Myers and Larry All, as well as two brothers, Joseph Cullen and James Cullen, and one sister, Rosalie Cullen, S.P. Elvera attended St Patricks Grade School and graduated from St Patrick High School (Central Catholic) in 1940 and later retired as a clerk from the Vigo County Courthouse in 1986. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award presented to her by Gov. Evan Bayh. She was a long-time member and supporter of the Vigo County Democratic Party, and served 38 years as Precinct Committeman and was the first recipient of the Committee Person Award at the Truman Dinner. In addition, she was a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, University of Notre Dame, and Bobby Knight. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM , with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 4:00 -8:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, and from 9:30 – 11:00 AM Wednesday in the church.

Frances G. Shuler

Frances Shuler, 91, of Terre Haute passed away on February 2, 2012. She was born on April 16, 1920 to Riley Boyll and Bessie (Cottrell) Boyll. Frances was a member of the Youngstown United Methodist Church. There she participated in the Women Methodist Group. She was also a member of the Prime Timer Bowling League, Saddle Club, and Auto Club. Francis enjoyed golfing. She was very proud that she was able to score a hole in one at one of her golf outings.
She is survived by her son Dennis Shuler his wife Shannon; daughter Cheryl Bedwell her husband Steve, sisters Mary Walton, Almeda Hudson, and Reba Williams; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Herman “ Shorty” Shuler; her parents; daughter Nancy Shuler; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday February 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E Springhill Drive. Pastor Linda Snider will be officiating. Burial will be in Hull Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday February 6, 2012 from 4:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Youngstown United Methodist Church.

Helen M. Peak, 95, of Terre Haute passed away January 31, 2012 at Cobblestone Crossings Health Care. She was born August 15, 1916 in Newton, KS to Thair and Margaret (Brooks) Leckington. She was a retired teller at First Financial Bank, a member of the Terre Haute 1st Retirees Club, and had been a member of the Union Hospital Service League. Her husband Roy Peak preceded her in death. She is survived by one niece, Mary West, of Wichita, KS. In keeping with her wishes there are no services. Burial will be in Newton, Kansas. Dorothy Jane Hollingsed, 85, of Terre Haute passed away on January 28, 2012 at 11:30 p.m. She was born on September 10, 1926 to Charles and Agnes (Gallaway) Schott. Dorothy attended and graduated from Gerstmeyer High School.
Dorothy is survived by sons Charles Harvey his wife Sue of Georgia, Leon Harvey his wife Ann of Terre Haute, George Harvey his wife Pam of Spencer, IN, and Carl Hollingsed; daughters Agnes Hollingsed-Edmonson her husband Wayne Schultz of Terre Haute, Eva Hollingsed-Hill, her husband John Fiddler of Terre Haute; brother Charles Schott of Terre Haute; sister Sally Morris of Terre Haute; 15 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Loren Hollingsed; her parents; sisters Eva Heck and Gertrude Dunbar; and grandson Jason Harvey.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Wednesday February 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E Springhill Drive. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home prior to services from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to share memories and celebrate Dorothy’s life.

Cynthia Baffy-Fowler, 56, of Terre Haute passed away on January 27, 2012 at 7:32 a.m. in St. Vincent’s Hospital. She was born on January 11, 1956 to Jerry Fowler and Delilah Bowers. Cynthia was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She cherished her family, as she was their rock through many hard times. She enjoyed being around animals, drinking coffee, listening to music, and singing. Cynthia growing up and throughout her life was known as a daddy’s girl. She was a member of the Victory Christian Center in Seelyville, IN. She attended Sally Beauty Academy, and later on became a nail technician.
Cynthia is survived by her husband Albert Baffy; daughters Victoria Cassida, her husband Caleb, Sarah Baffy, and her fiancé David Belknap; sister-in-law Mary Sclafani; mother–in-law Margaret Baffy; her dog Terre; and many other loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Wednesday February 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E Springhill Drive. Rev. Shawn Riggs will be officiating. Burial will be at Morris Chapel Cemetery in Dugger, IN. Visitation will be on Tuesday January 31, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Alberta L. Sidenbender, 91, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday January 28, 2012 at 11:51 am in Cobblestone Crossing. She worked as a lab technician and in the office at IMC, retiring in May of 1982. Alberta was born May 18, 1920 in Clay Count y, IN to Rex Killion and Iva (Orman) Killion. She is survived b y 5 nieces and nephews: Cathy Sheridan, Mark Killion, Stephanie Hasecuster, Beth Traub, and Gary Killion; cousins, many life-long friends and sorority sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents. Her husband Raymond P. Sidenbender who died December 11, 1983 and 2 brothers: Cecil E. Killion and Hershel W. Killion. Alberta was a member of Maryland Community Church, a 65 year member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority where she never missed a meeting in 65 years. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Eagles Lodge. Cremation is scheduled with private burial at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park. Beta Sigma Phi sorority will be conducting a memorial service at a later date. The family; would like to thank the staff at Cobblestone Crossing for their caring and compassionate service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that for those who desire, memorial contributions can be made to either ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s disease) or the American Heart Association. Gary Lee Critchlow, 57, of Terre Haute, passed away at 3:31 PM on Thursday, January 26, 2012 in Union Hospital. He was born in Terre Haute on June 21, 1954 to Vern Critchlow and Nellie Morris Critchlow. He is survived by his mother, Nellie Shephard, 2 sons, Scott Critchlow and Zachary Critchlow, and by two daughters, Amanda Critchlow and Casey Critchlow as well as his grandchildren. Other survivors include four sisters; Linda (Husband Bill), Sharon, Joyce (Husband Steven), and Brenda (Husband George) and several nieces and nephews, as well as Gary’s companion Jackie. He was preceded in death by his wife Karen Critchlow, his father Vern Critchlow, his son Charlie Critchlow and a brother Larry Critchlow. Graveside services will be held in Grandview Cemetery on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Ray Austin officiating, with burial following in Grandview. Arrangements are under the direction of DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory.

Ruth Elizabeth Yochum, 91, died at 12:37 PM on January 22, 2012 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born February 9, 1920 in Fontanet, IN . She attended Otter Creek High School and graduated in 1937. She worked for Quaker Maid (Ann Page) in Terre Haute and Root’s Department Store. She retired from Root’s Department store where she managed the wig department. There, her care-giving skills allowed her the opportunity to console many cancer patients seeking help from chemotherapy. She was pleased to listen and help them build their self-esteem. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She enjoyed music, dancing, springtime, flowers, birds and animals. Most of all, her family and friends were her life. She cared for many individuals. She truly was a compassionate soul.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Edward Yochum, mother and father Viola and Isaac Remington, and brother Norman Remington.
Her surviving family members are daughters and sons-in-law Myrna Metheny and Jim Metheny of Santa Anna, CA, Rhonda Yochum and Jeff Schnellenberger of Terre Haute, grandson Mike Trump of Terre Haute and his family Tresy Trump, Trevor Trump, Allyson Trump, and Ian Trump. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Betty Remington of Delta, UT, nieces and nephews; Sandy Keef of Corona, CA, Judi and Ronnie Haag of Delta, UT, and Terri and Stacey Remington of Salt Lake City, UT, Roselyn Imke of Warren, OH, Jeff Yochum of Plainfield, IN, and Jon Yochum and Marci Yochum of New Jersey. Also surviving are cousins Margie and Harold Hayne of Terre Haute and their children Ron Hayne, Janet Auterson and Mark Hayne of Terre Haute, and her loving grand pets Simon, Jane Ayre, McGreggor, “K” boys, Pete, Mug, Rey, Barbie, Halim and her wild cardinals.
Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Dawn Carlson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Cloud Foundation, in her memory.

Irene E. Simpson, 95, passed away 1:22 a.m. on January 21, 2012. She was born on January 21, 1917 to Riley and Bessie (Cottrell) Boyll. She was a member of the Youngstown Methodist Church. Irene lived a fulfilling life that she loved. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends, and she didn’t know a stranger. Many family memories were made around the dinner table in her home, as she loved to cook full course meals for her family.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Elmer Simpson; her parents; 6 brothers; and 1 sister. She is survived by her sons David Simpson, his wife Karen, Daryl Simpson, his wife Elizabeth; grandchildren Janis Cullison her husband Rodney, David Simpson his wife Staci, and Schyler Simpson; great grandchildren Christina Cullison, Madison Simpson, and Christian Simpson; sisters Mary Walton, Frances Shuler, Almeda Hudson, and Reba Williams and her husband Milton.

Margie “Chris” (Myers) Allen passed away in her home with her family by her side on January 20, 2012 at 2:25 p.m. Chris was born on February 9, 1925 to Emmett Myers and Goldie (Kurtz) Myers. She married her husband J.T. Allen on September 22, 1946. Chris was a member of the Maplewood Christian Church. She was a teacher’s aide at Fuqua Elementary School and Hoosier Prairie Elementary School. Chris was devoted to her family, and enjoyed spending time with them. She is best known for her angel food cake, cherry pie, and pea salad.
Chris is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years J.T. Allen, and her parents. She is survived by her son James Allen; daughter Jeanne Endress and her husband Larry; grandchildren Rich Beeler, his wife Erin, Amanda Wolfe, her husband Adam, Brandon Endress, his wife Adrianna, and Noel Endress; great grandchildren Keegan Beeler, Piper Beeler, Liam Beeler, Briley Wolfe, Lane Milner, and Hunter Milner; brother Bill Myers; sister Reba Vencel; and brother-in-law Joe Allen.
