Margaret A. ‘Marge’ Steward, 75, lifelong Terre Haute resident died September 2, 2010 at Union Hospital. She was born on November 27, 1934 to Homer and Nora (Vess)Bose. She was a homemaker and a past member of the Order of Eastern Star and had, at one time, been a 10 year volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Steward, brothers and sisters Clarence, David, Wanitta, and Reba Mae. She is survived by her son David Crombie of Terre Haute, her daughter Margaret Daub of Florida, her sister Nora Travelstead of Terre Haute, her brother Homer Bose of Terre Haute, four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, five nieces and five nephews, all of who will miss her greatly. May she always walk in beauty. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Rev. Stephen Moore officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Nancy Lee (Sprague) Moore, 70, of Terre Haute died 4:15 a.m., September 3, 2010 in Union Hospital. She was born in Dana, IN on October 22, 1939 to Carl and Ella (Leatherwood) Sprague. They have preceded her in death. She retired from Hydro Power in 1999. She is a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Her survivors are her husband, Dave whom she married Jun;e 1, 1957, a son David and his wife LeAnn, a daughter Diana Glover and her husband Roger, and a brother Jack Sprague. Her grandchildren are Justin Moore and his wife Kelly, Joshua Moore and his wife Kelly, Jennifer Moore, Brandon Glover and his wife Jennifer. Her two great-great grandchildren are Colten Moore and Brianna Glover. She is also survived by her nother-in-law Mildred Moore and a sister-in-law Beverly Sue Moore. Funeral services will be at DeBaun Springhill Chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 with Mark Grayless officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. with Beta Sigma Phi memorial services at 6:30 p.m. Burial is in Summit Lawn Cemetery, Brazil, IN. For those who choose memorial contributions may be mad e to either Beta Sigma Phi or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Shawn A. Biddle 45, loving father, husband, and best friend to many died tragically on September 2, 2010 from a tractor roll-over accident. He was born on June 16, 1965 in Terre Haute to Vernon Paul Biddle, Jr., and Shirlee Kraemer Biddle. His parents have preceded him in death. He was a member of the Operating Engineers # 841 and was employed at S & G Excavating at their Houseman Rd./Davis Dr. location. He also was a member of Social Lodge # 86 F&AM and the Zorah Shrine. For many years he had been active with the Wabash Valley Horseman’s Association and will be fondly remembered for driving his team of mules. He is survived by his wife Christine (Dunkin) Biddle, his children Brent Biddle and Cassie Biddle, two brothers Vernon Paul Biddle, III and his wife Phyllis, and Scott Biddle and his wife Trish. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Samantha Biddle, Brooke Biddle, Sydney Dunkin, Ashley Dunkin, and Nicholas Dunkin; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Terri and Richard Dunkin, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Rich and Jaymi Dunkin. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday fron 12:30 until services. Social Lodge #86 will present their memorial on Monday at 7 p.m. For those who choose memorial contributions may be made to either the Wabash Valley Horseman’s Association or the charity of your choice. Charles E. Ellis, 78, of Terre Haute, died Friday September 3, 2010 at Regional Hospital. Charles was born on August 8, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of John and Dora Mae Ellis. He is a graduate of Prairie Creek High School. Charles served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from November of 1952 to November 1954. He married his wife Violet “Jeannie” Ellis on December 23, 1955. He retired from Weston Paper in 1996, where he worked as a weigh master. Charles was a member of the Sycamore Strummers, and bowled in Monday and Wednesday senior leagues at Terre Haute Bowling Center. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts, and Sycamore lady’s basketball.
Charles is survived by his wife, three sons, Ronald “Ron” Ellis and his wife Kathy, David Ellis and his wife Sharon, Brian Ellis, a daughter Karen Oxendine and her husband Robert, all of Terre Haute, nine grandchildren, Andy Ellis, Molly Ellis, Jessica Ellis, Brent Ellis, Chelsea Ellis, Ethan Ellis, Katie Chironna, Kasi Oxendine, Brylynn Ellis, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 8th from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with funeral services beginning at 1:00 P.M. with _________________ officiating. Burial will take place in New Harmony Cemetery, with military rites performed by _________. Charles family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to American Diabetes with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Nina Mae Stewart, 94, of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:45 PM on Sunday, August 29, 2010 in Springhill Village Healthcare. She was born in Vigo County, IN on June 4, 1916 to Fred E. Maners and Jessie Brown Maners. She is survived by one sister, Nola Rhoads, and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Dave Sivley officiating. Burial will be in Hull Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12 Noon – 2:00 PM in the funeral home.

Helen LaVerne Scofield, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:26 AM on Monday, August 30, 2010 in Union Hospital. She was born in Terre Haute on August 26, 1922 to Clarence Burns and Anna Reynolds Burns. She married Jack Scofield on June 16, 1946 and he preceded her in death on November 15, 1996. Also preceding her in death were three sisters; Althea Larison, Mildred Daugherty, and Delores Fagg. She is survived by two daughters; Jackie Seddelmeyer (& husband John), and Nancy Geiger (& husband Leonard). Also surviving is one brother, Bill Burns, and one sister, Dorothy Allan. Other survivors include three grandchildren; Julia Vaughn (& husband Jon), Jennifer Seddelmeyer, and Andrew Geiger, as well as two great grandchildren; Taylor Vaughn and Brittany Vaughn. She attended Eighth Ave. Baptist Church, where she was one of the “back row church ladies” with her friend Vaunda, she was an avid Terre Haute North Basketball fan & enjoyed watching and attending other sporting events, she also enjoyed attending musicals & plays in which her granddaughters gave performances, and was also very proud of her grandson’s work in television, and also enjoyed visiting with all her family at the family reunions. Funeral services will be held in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 2, 2010, with Rev. Dick Smith officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to either Eighth Ave. Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society, in her memory.

Carol Rae Robbins, 88, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday August 29, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Sullivan surrounded by her family. She was born in Fairbanks, IN to Ray B. Drake and Mae L. Drake on March 7, 1922. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She is survived by her husband, John W. Robbins, whom she married on October 20, 1945; two daughters: Holly Hoesman and her husband Ross of Shelburn and Susan McCammon and her husband Bob of Sullivan; one son: Greg Robbins and his wife Teresa of Brazil; 5 grandchildren: Amy Robbins, Tad Robbins, Ty Robbins, Kyle McCammon, and Kara McCammon Nickell and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Dwight Drake and Biard Drake. There is no visitation. Graveside services will be Tuesday August 31, 2010 at 1:30 pm in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan with Reverend David Cox officiating with burial immediately following services. DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. is in charge of arrangements.

James M. McCullough, 85, of Terre Haute passed away Friday August 27, 2010 at 8:03 pm in Union Hospital. He was a retired pipefitter with the Plumbers and Steamfitter’s Local #157. James was born November 23, 1924 to Forrest and Maude McCullough. He is survived by 3 sons: Terry McCullough of Terre Haute, Randy McCullough of Terre Haute, and Greg McCullough and his wife Loraine of Maryland; a brother: Teddy McCullough; 2 grandchildren: Clint McCullough and Amy McCullough, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha McCullough who died September 25, 2006, his parents and 2 brothers: Paul McCullough and Lee McCullough. He was a veteran of the US Army, where he was a tank driver, in WW II, a member of the Lawton-Byrum Post #972 VFW, the American Legion Post #104, and the Moose Lodge. Private family services are scheduled at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr.. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery.

Ivan L. Taylor, 86, lifetime Vigo County resident died on August 26, 2010 at his daughters residence. He was born on July 14, 1924 to Emory and Alta Pickens Taylor in Blackhawk,IN. He was a retired ironworker having belonged to Iron Workers Local #439, now Local #22 for 40 years. He then worked as a driver/messenger for Brinks Security for 14 years. He was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, and was a US Army veteran of WW 2 having served with the 710th Tank Battalion spending one year and eleven months in the South Pacific. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Taylor and her companion Orval Norris, two granddaughters Stephanie Vicars and her husband Jeff Vicars, and Jackie Wenzel; two great-grandchildren Austin and Kaylah Vicars; one brother Leon Taylor, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary (Cowie) Taylor in 2005, whom he married in January 1951, a brother Otto Taylor, a sister Freda Garvin, several nieces and a nephew. He was a member of the former Euclid Masonic Lodge # 573, F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, VFW #972, Wayne Newton American Legion Post # 346, Kerman Grotto and its Drum Corps, Lucky 13 Club, and the Murdock Auto Racing Club. He was a race fan for over 50 years and also loved to travel, boat, mushroom hunt, going to amusement parks, spending time with his family, and working in his garage. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery with military rites conducted by Wayne Newton American Legion Honor Guard. The family wants to thank Southern Care Hospice for their help and a special thank you to Orval Norris for all of his care and support.

She was a member and past president of the Wayne Newton Post #356 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Terre Haute Eagle’s Lodge #291. Funeral services will be Friday August 27, 2010 at 1:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr., with Pastor Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery.
