Elvera May (Cullen) Yontz, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:45 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2012 in Springhill Village. She was born in Vigo County on May 14, 1921 to James Paul Cullen and Aline Moran Cullen. She is survived by 1 son, Paul Yontz (& his wife Leslie), and three daughters; Judi Myers, Sally Bower, and Kathy All. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Paul Myers, Amy Story (& husband Matt), Aaron Bower, Ryan All, Jennifer Finn (& husband Zach), Amanda Grini (& husband Per), Megan Bower, and Mallory Yontz. In addition there are five great grandchildren surviving, Bradyn Bower, Kayla Story, Jason Story, Clark Finn and Jasper Grini, as well as a sister-in-law, June Cullen, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by 2 sons-in-law; Dean Myers and Larry All, as well as two brothers, Joseph Cullen and James Cullen, and one sister, Rosalie Cullen, S.P. Elvera attended St Patricks Grade School and graduated from St Patrick High School (Central Catholic) in 1940 and later retired as a clerk from the Vigo County Courthouse in 1986. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award presented to her by Gov. Evan Bayh. She was a long-time member and supporter of the Vigo County Democratic Party, and served 38 years as Precinct Committeman and was the first recipient of the Committee Person Award at the Truman Dinner. In addition, she was a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, University of Notre Dame, and Bobby Knight. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM , with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 4:00 -8:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, and from 9:30 – 11:00 AM Wednesday in the church.
