Mary Jean Hawhee

February 15, 1926 ~ June 13, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Mary Jean (McDonald) Hawhee, a lifelong resident of Farmersburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, in Terre Haute. Jean, daughter of Jessie Mahan McDonald and Thurman S. McDonald, was born Feb. 15, 1926. After graduating from Farmersburg High School in 1944, she attended Indiana State University then worked as a secretary at Sullivan High School. After marrying her husband, Jack she managed the family farm until as recently as a week ago. During her life, Jean enjoyed doing creative projects with her kids, watching her grandchildren grow, traveling to different parts of the country to visit relatives, managing the farm, and using her creativity to decorate the church for special occasions with her sister, Wanda. Jean will always be remembered for her kind manner, independence, and thoughtful heart. She was known as a giving person and even in death, her giving continues as her donation of tissues will touch the lives of many.

 

Jean is survived by her daughter, Lana and husband Geoff Shuck, Terre Haute, IN; her son, Phil and wife Vicki Hawhee, Indian Rocks Beach, FL.; her grandchildren, Megan Rubey and husband Lucas Rubey, Carmel, IN; Conner Shuck, Terre Haute; Lauren Hawhee and Spencer Hawhee, Indian Rocks Beach, FL.; brother-in-law James (Jim) R. Lear, Farmersburg, IN; sister-in-law Vernice McDonald, Tallahassee, FL.; niece, Jill Lear Williams and husband Bill and their daughters Maddi and Rory Williams, Austin, TX.; and nephew, Dick Lear and wife Lisa of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack N. Hawhee; sister, Wanda Lear; brother, George and his daughter Dawn McDonald. A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 17 from 12:00 noon til 2:00 p.m.  at Farmersburg Presbyterian Church, 222 East Main Street, Farmersburg, Indiana  with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm followed by interment at Farmersburg Westlawn Cemetery.  Reverend John Turner will be officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made in Jean’s memory to Farmersburg Presbyterian Church, PO Box 626, Farmersburg, IN 47850, Vigo County Education Foundation or Terre Haute Humane Society.  A special thank you to the medical staff at Regional Hospital who offered excellent care during her brief stay.
