Obituaries

Ivan L. Taylor, 86, lifetime Vigo County resident died on August 26, 2010 at his daughters residence. He was born on July 14, 1924 to Emory and Alta Pickens Taylor in Blackhawk,IN. He was a retired ironworker having belonged to Iron Workers Local #439, now Local #22 for 40 years. He then worked as a driver/messenger for Brinks Security for 14 years. He was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, and was a US Army veteran of WW 2 having served with the 710th Tank Battalion spending one year and eleven months in the South Pacific. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Taylor and her companion Orval Norris, two granddaughters Stephanie Vicars and her husband Jeff Vicars, and Jackie Wenzel; two great-grandchildren Austin and Kaylah Vicars; one brother Leon Taylor, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary (Cowie) Taylor in 2005, whom he married in January 1951, a brother Otto Taylor, a sister Freda Garvin, several nieces and a nephew. He was a member of the former Euclid Masonic Lodge # 573, F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, VFW #972, Wayne Newton American Legion Post # 346, Kerman Grotto and its Drum Corps, Lucky 13 Club, and the Murdock Auto Racing Club. He was a race fan for over 50 years and also loved to travel, boat, mushroom hunt, going to amusement parks, spending time with his family, and working in his garage. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery with military rites conducted by Wayne Newton American Legion Honor Guard. The family wants to thank Southern Care Hospice for their help and a special thank you to Orval Norris for all of his care and support.
